Apple iPhone SIM Cards
Will the Apple iPhone switch to an open network/SIM card availability after the contract expires with AT&T?

Or will it just switch directly to another carrier like Verizon? I imagine that the best scenario would be that people on the AT&T contract would still be able to use their iPhones but the other carriers would be able to use their SIM cards. Anyone know something about this? Actually *know* it and not just an opinion?

It would require more than just being able to use their Sim Card. It would also require reprogramming of the software to allow the use of a different carrier. Which is why people currently "unlock" iPhones now.

As of Nov 4th it was still just a rumor that the iPhone could be opened up to other providers. http://mashable.com/2009/11/06/verizon-iphone-2010/

With a revamped layout, a sparkling new display, a speedy processor, and additional functions, Apple iPhone four is the biggest upgrade to Apple's smartphone because the iPhone 3G.It's also the showcase handset for Apple's newest operating system, iOS four, which adds a variety of prolonged-overdue functions, plus a choice of smaller tweaks that we weren't expecting.

So should you acquire it? If you're an iPhone fan, you've most likely already ordered your new baby. But if you're on the fence, consider carefully. We won't say that the iPhone four is the best smartphone on the marketplace nowadays. To do so would ignore so many fantastic competing handsets, and the fierce rate of change in the technology world. If you choose Apple's vision of a polished, highly organized, and slightly closed user knowledge, then by all means you'll be pleased. But if you favor a smartphone that provides more personalization, that isn't shackled to AT&T, or that is equal parts telephone and mobile pc, than there are plenty of smartphones in the sea.So a lot glass is shiny and gorgeous, but we have a couple of concerns.Despite the oleophobic coating on both the front and back sides, the glass attracts smudges by the ton. Also, even even though Apple CEO Steve Jobs promises that glass greater resists scratches and cracks than plastic, we'll be watching lengthy-term durability. In initial testing, the iPhone 4 did have a solid, sturdy really feel in the hand and it survived a handful of drops to a carpeted floor.Time will tell, nevertheless, how it holds up to heavy use.

At four.5 inches by 2.three inches by .37 inch, the iPhone four is as tall as the iPhone 3GS, but slightly thinner--25 percent, to be exact--and narrow when measured across its front face.It does feel smaller when compared with its predecessors, but we don't believe that's a bad factor. Work known as it the thinnest smartphone around, but given that that race modifications every day, it may well not hold the title for prolonged. When put on the scales it comes in at four.8 ounces, which is back to what we had with the first iPhone (both the 3G and 3GS models were slightly lighter). We attribute the extra girth to the larger battery, so we're not going to complain.
And a lot more to the point, the difference is barely noticeable.

User controls
Other new style components contain a new front-facing VGA camera, a new LED flash with the principal camera lens, and a new noise-cancellation microphone on the phone's top side. Needless to say, we welcome the additions since they represent new functionality (See the Functions section for a lot more details). We also don't thoughts the new split volume buttons, since they're a bit easier to grasp than the previous volume rocker.

Above the volume controls is the usual mute switch, which Apple also gave a tiny makeover. In greater alterations, Apple moved the SIM card slot to the right spine and switched to a Micro-SIM format, just like the iPad. According to Work, the Micro-SIM format makes it possible for much more space for the larger battery. Just keep in thoughts that you won't be able to use a regular SIM in the cell phone.

The remaining exterior elements are largely unchanged. The House button is in its normal place below the display; the three.5mm headset jack and power key sit up top next to the aforementioned noise-cancellation microphone; and the 30-pin connector, microphone, and speaker are where they belong on the iPhone 4's bottom end. Sadly, and to no one's surprise, you still can't remove the battery.

IEven after the extended wait we're really pleased with the multitasking encounter. As it has a talent for doing, Apple has presented the feature in a slick, effortless-to-use manner. It performed beautifully without having ever crashing or freezing the phone; it didn't appear to negatively affect battery life; and it accomplishes what it sets out do. But even with strong points, we wouldn't agree that it's the "the best" way to multitask (a popular Apple claim). It might be slick and save you a handful of clicks, but other approaches--such as the "deck of cards" interface on WebOS--continue to impress. Similarly, although limited multitasking may possibly result in a lot more-efficient energy management, we'll have to run comparison testing with other smartphones before we can agree.an example of.
