Will a nextel phone work on the sprint PCS network?

I've had Sprint for years, but I would prefer to have a more rugged phone like the ones Nextel offers.

No, you can't use a Nextel phone (iDEN) on the Sprint PCS (CDMA) network. But you should be able to switch phones with either a new one from the Sprint store or even something off eBay with no problems. Just be aware that the footprints of the two companies might be different so where your Sprint phone might work at one location, the Nextel one might not. Or on the other handit might work even better. Also Sprint PCS phones roam, (usually for free) where the Nextel phones do not.

If you find the coverage footprints are similar though, the Nextel phones are just about bulletproof. So far I've dropped mine off my roof, off the back of my bumper, and into the dogs water dish and it still works perfect. They are great phones if you don't mind a little extra bulk from the rubber "armor".

There are many individuals that have a mobile device account.
