Why do I keep on getting flashing apple screen on my ipod touch?

Yesterday night I was using my touch and it died on me so I just left it on my computer to charge. When I get it today in the morning for my run the ipod didn't charge at all and now when I try to turn in on it gives me the apple ipod start up screen but it just keeps flashing and flashing. I already tried to reset and nothing. Does anyone have any idea what I could do about this?

if the ipod keeps freezing at the apple logo that generally indicates there is something wrong with the software or data that is on the ipod

when you plug your ipod into your computer did it go to sleep during the night
does it come up in itunes
if the ipod does come up in itunes try to restore the device
