Why does Vista require more RAM for games?

Hello, i was wondering why Windows Vista requires more RAM for games. Most new games say on the system specs "512MB RAM (XP) - 1G for Vista" Why does Vista need more to run the same game?

In engineering, you frequently have to make trade-offs. You base those trade-offs on what's most important.

When XP was made, typical machines has around 64MB. So XP is very thrifty (by modern standards) in its resource use. When XP first came out, it was considered a resource pig because it wouldn't run well on 16MB machines. But in exchange, it still runs well on 1GB machines many years later.

Vista is designed for a future where 8GB machines are typical. It's not designed to efficiently run in 512MB because for most of its lifetime, 512MB machines will be as common as 64MB machines are today.

Every new major version of Windows has required more resources just to boot than the previous version.

Windows vista is an Operating system which was developed by Microsoft in year of 2006. The previous name of Windows vista was "longhorn".
